The deal with New Leaf's website

Hi All,

While we're working away on our end to get our social media/web presence set, I realized it may not seem like that to the rest of you!  For us, summer is the perfect time to do this in terms of the business side of things.  Things slow down significantly in domestic publishing, foreign publishing, film/tv, etc.  But what just occurred to me this morning is that things never slow down for writers looking for representation...and you guys might be wondering what's what.

So I just wanted to give a quick rundown of what New Leaf is up to in terms of establishing themselves online:

Website - this is currently under construction.  The site address will be: www.newleafliterary.com.  Until then, feel free to check out our Publisher's Marketplace pages for details about us:

Joanna Volpe
Kathleen Ortiz
Suzie Townsend

Blog - if you're reading this, then you already know where it is!  However, this blog will eventually be fading out as New Leaf will be shifting to a tumblr page--this is currently being set up.  We chose tumblr because of its fantastic "Ask" feature (for writers who have questions for us agents), and also because it's easier to tag clients/projects and for it to be searchable.  We're excited about this transition! But don't forget that both Suzie Townsend and Kathleen Ortiz run their own blogs, and I contribute to the fabulous Publishing Crawl.

Facebook - We are already there!  Go Like our page!  We're going to be doing more with FB eventually, once everything else is up and running on our end.

Twitter - We're already there, too!  In fact, we're there as individuals, and as an agency.  Follow us if you're interested!

New Leaf Literary - @newleafliterary
Joanna Volpe - @josvolpe
Kathleen Ortiz - @kortizzle
Suzie Townsend - @sztownsend81
Pouya Shahbazian - @pouyanyc
Danielle Barthel - @debarthel

Pinterest - We are also up on here!  Though it's just the basic set up right now.  Like with Facebook, we'll be doing more with Pinterest once everything else is set up.

Overall, our plan is to be fully launched and set up by mid-September, if not sooner.  The agents at New Leaf Literary & Media have always striven for a strong online presence, and that certainly has not changed. In today's day and age it's more important than ever for our agency and especially for our clients to be out there, interacting with readers and writers consistently.  We will continue to do so, always.

As for submissions, please check out our Submission FAQ above for more information, and keep in mind that we only respond to queries if we're interested.  We read all queries within two weeks of receipt.  If you send an e-query, you will receive an auto-responder that confirms receipt.

And that's the short and skinny of New Leaf Literary & Media, Inc!

Cheers, All!

For your website, it would be smart to add a one page "coming this September!" Most domain services allow a one page site without a hosting subscription. That would let people know you're on the way.

Good call! Thanks!

'We chose tumblr because of it's fantastic "Ask" feature...'

I don't wish to be snarky but really: it would augur well if a literary agent knew that the possessive "its" has no apostrophe.

Thanks for pointing it out--I will correct that error immediately. I actually do know that the possessive "its" has no apostrophe. The post was written fairly quickly and only proofread by me once, directly after I wrote it. It probably would have helped to have a second set of eyes look it over, but frankly, our time is better spend working on client-related items.

I don't mind our readers pointing out mistakes like this at all. In fact, I find it very helpful. However, I ask that you please be mindful of your tone. We're only human, and we read thousands upon thousands of words per day.
