You're It!

So an internet tag has been going around where the blogger answers eight questions, and then tags eight people to answer the same. One of our wonderful clients, Loretta Nyhan, sneakily tagged everyone who read her blog post. And we're doing the same. If you're reading this, consider yourself tagged!

1. If you could have a superpower, what would you have? Why?
Jo: Either super speed or telekinesis. I've given this a LOT of thought in the past, and I think telekinesis would probably be the way to go because you can do SO MUCH with it. Stop bullets. Fly. Retrieve objects you need. Etc. But super speed would be awesome for work....
Sara: Hmm, it’s a tie between teleportation and speed-reading. ...I know you can’t see this, but I just spent five minutes seriously considering the pros and cons of each, and I’ve chosen teleportation. Because I can still read books (even if I can’t read them in two minutes) without super powers, but I cannot have lunch in Italy everyday.

2. Who is your style icon?
Jo: Gwen Stefani. I love her and the colorful stuff she wears! She's not afraid to be bold.
Sara: Anthropologie? I know this is not a person, but I endeavor to look the way that store feels.

3. What is your favorite quote?
Jo: "If you're going through hell, keep going." Winston Churchill.
Sara: “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” Anais Nin

4. What is the best compliment you've ever received?
Jo: The best one is a little personal, so I'll go for second best. I've been told by more than one person that I'm easy to talk to--that I don't judge. I don't, and it's nice that someone(s) noticed!
Sara: “I’m reading Alice in Wonderland for the first time, and she kind of reminds me of you. Mostly because she always seems to be eating pastries, and also a little because of how she rationalizes the odd situations she finds herself in.”

5. What playlist/cd is on your ipod/cd player right now?
Jo: Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion. LOVE Mika. A modern day Freddie Mercury. No joke.
Sara: Regina Spektor, Begin to Hope

6. Are you a night owl or a morning person?
Jo: Total night owl. I'm filling this out at 11:30 pm and I'm wide awake.
Sara: Night owl. I’d really like to be a morning person, but I am too attached to my snooze button.

7. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
Jo: Dogs. Cats are cool, but I find dogs more loving (at least to me!).
Sara: Dogs. I like all of them, but I especially like the giant ones. Though for the record, I have nothing against cats. I just like dogs more.

8. What is the meaning behind your blog name?
Jo: Haha...it's work-related. :-)
Sara: It’s a secret. Sorry. *grin* Actually, it’s the agency name. Which you already knew, I’m sure.

P.S. Loretta's answer to number seven made me seriously laugh out loud. Check out the link to her post at the top if you're in need of some humor.
P.P.S. And if you fill these out on your blog, let us know! We'd love to see your answers.

HA!!!

Thanks for the linkage, ladies.

I LOVE that it took you guys so long to figure out your superpowers.

And Jo is a night owl AND a morning person. I think that IS her superpower--the ability to get by on very little sleep.

AND...Sara it's so funny you say Anthropologie is your style icon because that store totally reminds me of you!

What??! Lady Gaga isn't your style icon?

Ooo, I love these.
1) I want one of those superpowers like Samantha had on Bewitched where she twitches her nose and makes anything happen. Like dishes, laundry, revisions (woops, did I say that?)
2) Style icon? Miss Piggy.
3) "I give up. My face is in the butter." (Music & Lyrics)
4) Compliments? Seriously, I'm Canadian. We can't admit to those. It's like against our Charter of Rights and Thingies.
5) I'm listening to WAY too much Eminem lately which is fine except my kids are now calling their friends Ho's and I REALLY don't want to have to go to the principal's office again. Not after the restraining order incident of 2008.
6) Neither, but I used to be a night owl before I gave up sleep for 3 years.
7) Cats normally although I am currently at war with my cat, due to the fact that he keeps biting my ankles.
8) My current blog is named after me, because I am very original like that. Wait, was that a compliment?

Best superpower: Hello??? Flying, of course.

Style Icon: er, um, I'm just trying to stay out of mom jeans. I wouldn't go so far as to say there is any kind of icon involved. I suppose I invoke Queen Elizabeth I from time to time.

Jo, your favorite quote is one of mine, too! I just bought a magnet of it!

I love these questions!

In fact I loved them so much, I answered them. Here it is!

Dancing with Dragons is Hard on your Shoes

I don't have a blog, so here goes.

1) Superpower: Did you see Mel Gibson in What Women Want? We men are such pigs.

2) Style icon: David Lee Roth in my youth. Unfortunately, there exists photographic evidence. Now I'd say Damon or McConaughey (except for that whole naked bongo playing phase).

3) Quote: "People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent."
-Bob Dylan

4) Compliment: "You have great kids."

5) Back in Black by ACDC

6) Night owl for sure.

7) I have dogs and cats, but prefer dogs. Especially goofy ones who look embarrassed when they fall down the stairs (Skipper last week).

LOL, you gals are so funny! Okay, since my bog is a group thing, I think I'll just post my answers here.

1. My immediate answer would be flying, however, I find myself swayed by Jo's logic. While I'm not entirely convinced that telekinesis could make a girl fly (Jo, we need to discuss), I may have to say that. Much more bang for your superpower buck.

2. Style icon, LOL. Um, realistically, I'm a lazy dresser and pick long lasting favorites, usually jeans and boots, for the way they feel, rather than their syle. Think, Tomboy made good. Sundance catalogy, maybe?

3. My favorite quote is actually a passage, mayhaps a bit too long to post, so I'll do my second favorite.

“Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.”
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

4. *Gasp* Jo, my favorite compliment is nearly exactly the same. Friends say they can talk to me about ANYTHING b/c I never judge and am never unkind. (It's true, even in my heart.)

5. Right now? It's Queen, LOL. It's clever, fun, but totally campy--perfect for the book I'm writing currently.

6. Total morning person. No contest.

7. Aw, both, but at different times. My dog for walking, but my cat for sleeping on my lap while I read.

8. Well, my actual blog (willwrite4cake.blogspot) is based on the name of my critique group. We celebrate good writing news with cake...delicious, delicious cake.

I love things like this! Your answers are hilarious

1. Shapeshifting, like the blue girl on X-Men. Only, as long as I get to stay myself when I'm not shape-shifting. Her blue skin and neon orange hair was disturbing and awkward. Also, I promise I won't walk around naked like she does. Always found that unnecessary.

2. Emma.Freaking.Watson. She is the perfect mix of classy with a young edge. Smart and sophisticated, but willing to take a risk. Those Burberry ads made me feel inferior and I liked it.

3. "Prince, what you are, you are by the accident of birth. I am of myself. There are and there will be thousands of princes. There is only one Beethoven." Rather arrogant, but how fabulous, right?

4. At the Harry Potter 6 midnight showing, I was wearing a gold and scarlet t-shirt. While still outside the theater, I heard wild screaming coming from somewhere near the food counter, where a girl dressed like Bellatrix Lestrange was flinging popcorn and pointing at me, yelling, "Hermione! Hermione!"

She may have been drunk. Okay, she was definitely drunk. But that's irrelevant.

5. The Fray's first CD. Can't remember what it's called right now, but it's awesome.

6. Hoot. I love coffee.

7. Dogs except when I'm holding a cat. And as long as I have a lint roller.

8. My blog title is, "It's the world, dear," which is something Mrs. Beaver says in "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." The thing that caught my imagination in that book was the idea that there are worlds within worlds. In the story, Narnia is a magical, real, physical place. But there are worlds within that don't have to be an entire new country. The more you get to know about a place, or a person, or a time or . . . well, anything, the more the world opens up, and reveals all these new things you didn't see before, which changes you. We love reading for that reason, and writing as well. Right now I live in a room the size of a closet, but I'd like to think that there's a whole world in there, even if it's just in my head. The blog is a glimpse into that, as well as to my new home, New York City, where around every corner you're bumping into things you didn't expect, new people, new ideas, whole new worlds. So, really, as Mrs. Beaver asks, "Did you expect it {the world} to be small?" Of course not, by jove!

Well. That was long winded. Anyway . . .

1. Flying. Or being invisbile

2. Sara Kendall. Or Meredith Barnes.

3. "Tomorrow is another day."

4. "You changed my life."

5. Lady Gaga

6. Total night owl.

7. Sharks!!!

8. It's my own name so not much hidden meaning.

I’m always late to the party with answering these things.

If you could have a superpower, what would you have? Why?
My superpower wish changes each week. Right now I want mind control because something is messed up with one of the systems at work and I want to mind-control it to work for me.

Who is your style icon?
Um…dunno? I wear whatever’s clean. Usually jeans and a t. Whatever famous person wears that, that’s who my icon is.

What is your favorite quote?
I’ve got several, but the one on my mind at the moment is:
It is impossible to discourage the real writers – they don’t give a damn what you say, they’re going to write. –Sinclair Lewis.

I also kinda like Gary Busey’s statement that FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Buseyisms always have helpful advice.

What is the best compliment you've ever received?
It sounds sappy and I’d never tell him this (which is why I'm posting here and not on my blog, which he reads), but I love when my hubby brags about me to people he knows about how I’m an awesome wife because I’m not all judgy judgy and I don’t throw down the law about when he needs to be home or who he can talk to. I tell him I expect the same in return.

What playlist/cd is on your ipod/cd player right now?
It’s actually a cassette tape – one of friends from high school mentioned “Wish” by the Cure this morning, so I dug out my cassette and listened to it in all its 20-year warpedness.

Are you a night owl or a morning person?
I wish I could be a morning person, but I usually find inspiration in the middle of the night.

Do you prefer dogs or cats?
The temperamental cat that is currently staring at me says I like cats more.

What is the meaning behind your blog name?
“A Can of Corn or Something” is an inside joke, based on something my little brother said years ago

juniperjenny said...

Ooh! I wanna play! (Here, because I am blogless).

1. If you could have a superpower, what would you have? Why?
TELEKINESIS - I've had recurring dreams since I was in high school about telekinesis training - completely mundane, "real time" dreams in which I work from lifting feathers to catapulting tanks and boulders, over the course of several hours. And when I wake up and all that hard work turns out to be for for nought, I get seriously pissed off. Every. Time.

2. Who is your style icon?
Grace Kelly. I love that boaty, fresh scrubbed, French Riviera WASP thing.

3. What is your favorite quote?
Well, maybe not favorite, but most quoted...
"I don't care, I love to eat and I'm not gonna stop!"
(Wembley, my obese childhood cat, via a pet psychic)

4. What is the best compliment you've ever received?
My now fiance called me the most well adjusted person he'd ever met. He's since realized that that impression wasn't quite accurate. But we're still engaged, so whatever.

5. What playlist/cd is on your ipod/cd player right now?
I'm liking Two Door Cinema Club a lot - I mostly listen to Pandora stations or eclectic24 online.

6. Are you a night owl or a morning person?
I like to go to bed early AND sleep in. So I'm a late morning person. Otherwise known as a lazy bum.

7. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
I miss cats - and I must admit, I do prefer them to dogs. Their love is much less needy and much more earned.
